🤔 More Broker Transparency Confusion

On r/FreightBrokers, growing confusion around broker transparency reared its ugly head after a driver called a shipper mid-transit, accused the broker of double brokering, and demanded to know the payout on the load. The broker clarified that transparency rules were never passed and that any disclosure, or dispute, is strictly between broker and carrier. Contacting the shipper directly is still a clear contract violation and ultimately led to the freight being transloaded and the driver facing penalties.

Comments pointed out that much of the confusion comes from misinformation: broker transparency does exist as a rule, but most carriers sign waivers that limit access to records, waivers that remain enforceable. FMCSA is expected to issue a supplemental rule next year, which could reshape how transparency requests are handled.

❌ California CDL's Revoked

Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced that California’s DMV had illegally issued 17,000 non-domiciled CDLs, all of which are now being revoked following an FMCSA audit. According to the department, the review uncovered systemic failures in California’s licensing program — including licenses issued beyond visa limits and widespread noncompliance with federal standards. The state now faces a 60-day deadline to fix records and prove every improper license has been removed.

This enforcement wave follows earlier federal actions withholding more than $40 million in funds over California’s refusal to adopt FMCSA English proficiency rules.
