A widespread internet outage linked to failures at Google Cloud and Cloudflare brought critical disruption across the logistics and freight tech landscape on Thursday, highlighting the sector’s reliance on cloud infrastructure and the vulnerabilities that come with it.

Key Logistics Platforms Impacted

Several platforms essential to carrier operations and freight visibility experienced partial or full outages, including:

  • Project44: Functionality within the Movement platform, including real-time tracking, LTL rating, and dispatch modules, was impacted due to dependency on affected cloud infrastructure. Services were restored later in the day.

  • Truckstop: Mobile app and location features were temporarily disabled. The company cited a vendor-related cloud issue and reported resolution by late afternoon.

  • Replit: While not a logistics provider directly, the developer platform is widely used for freight tech prototyping and integrations. Its service was down due to its reliance on Google Cloud.

  • Cloudflare: As a key provider of content delivery and web infrastructure services, its own failure cascaded into access issues for several transportation systems.

  • Google Cloud: A major authentication and compute disruption hit core services. Companies relying on GCP for backend operations saw outages ranging from 60 to 150 minutes.
