The national average diesel price reversed last week’s increase, dropping 4.9 cents to $3.487 per gallon, according to data released May 28 by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
This follows a 6-cent increase the week prior, which had interrupted a five-week stretch of consecutive declines totaling 16.3 cents. Diesel is now 27.1 cents cheaper on average than during the same period in 2024.
“Diesel’s price movement continues to reflect broader volatility in energy markets, with regional shifts offering insight into localized demand and supply dynamics,” according to the EIA report.
